Michigan Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib is under fire for once again sharing her anti-Israeli sentiments for all the world to see.
Tlaib has now deleted a tweet that contained the phrase, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which, according to the Times of Israel, has long been a rallying cry of those who wish to wipe Israel off the map.
On Nov 29, which is memorialized as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Democrat representative retweeted the phrase from another account, along with an image of a poster about the day.
The Palestinian America has made it clear in the past that she does not believe Israel should exist as a Jewish state, according to the Times of Israel, and she has many times shown her support for the pro-Palestinian boycott movement against the country.
“Rashida Tlaib is not just opposed to Israeli control of the West Bank — this slogan means she sees the entire State of Israel as illegitimate and wants it eliminated,” Democratic Majority for Israel said in a tweet. “That’s an immoral and reprehensible position.”
The Times of Israel explained the background of her tweet saying, “The phrase was originated by Palestinian nationalists in the 1960s when the entire Palestinian movement sought Israel’s elimination. Mainstream Palestinian groups dropped the phrase after Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization recognized one another subsequent to the 1993 Oslo Accords, but it was then adopted by Islamists, including the Hamas terrorist group.”
They went on to say that in recent years individuals who have called for Israel to be replaced without a military conflict, have also adopted the phrase as their rallying cry.
Tlaib has since removed the tweet from her public Twitter account, and replaced it with just the poster, crediting the artist and a comment about thinking of her family from the West Bank, but with the inflammatory terrorist-associated phrase.
This is not, however, Tlaib’s first offense when it comes to her opinion on the nation of Israel. Among her other offenses was one in January when she falsely blamed Israelis for killing a Palestinian child by throwing him into a well.
“Tlaib retweeted a tweet by Hanan Ashrawi, a top Palestinian official, who was quote-tweeting an account, realSeifBitar, that accused Israeli settlers of kidnapping, assaulting, and throwing into a well an eight-year-old child. ‘The heart just shatters,’ Ashrawi said,” Times of Israel reported.
The boy in fact apparently died of accidental drowning in a reservoir of rainwater in eastern Jerusalem and it was Israeli first responders who attempted to revive him. Tlaib later removed the tweet and while Ashrawi apologized, Tlaib did not retract her previous accusation.
New York Post editorial department weighed in on Tlaib’s constant assaults on the Jewish state, saying in a recent article that “Tlaib insists she’s not an anti-Semite but keeps proving otherwise.”
The publication cited the recently deleted tweet and it’s phrases’ origins, also noting that the Michigan rep also publicly defended Marc Lamont Hill after CNN fired him for referencing the slogan in a UN address, saying that “she can’t even claim ignorance of what it means.”
“And she has a long record of this stuff,” the Post article went on. “Last year, Tlaib and fellow Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar both shared a cartoon by an artist infamous for mocking Holocaust victims. They also support the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement.
“Sadly, most Democratic politicians will continue to cover for these haters, since the party’s base has turned decisively against Israel. House Democrats didn’t even have the gumption to condemn blatantly anti-Semitic remarks by Omar last year. The real question is what it will take for Democratic voters to start rejecting this hate.”
